Home Sweet Home..."Oh, What a Beautiful Thing"

As mother lay and await her place in the glorious Kingdom of The Lord-she uttered but three things that will forever resonate in the bowels of my memory; "I'm going to miss yaw', take care of your daddy, and I'm ready to go home." And on November 19, 2013-at the ripe young age of 79, mother's last wish became a reality as she passed away in the presence of my father; her beloved husband of 58 years.

Sad as it may seem, there is not a day that goes by that I do not think of this strong; fierce; funny; beautiful and courageous woman that I called "Mother" for half a century. She is finally at peace. She is finally at home..."Oh, What a Beautiful Thing."

Reflections: "Happy Mother's Day"

Dear Fatty-
It's been 161 days since we last spoke and I miss you soooo much! I miss talking to you and asking, "What you eating on "Sista-baby?" Of course your response was always so tasty--- I always imagined that I was at the kitchen table enjoying yet another one of your 'good old southern meals.' -:)

P.s. "Yo "Husss...Ben" -:) ...misses you something aweful, but like you asked, we are keeping our daddy busy.

Love and miss you always...R.I.P.

GOD spelled backwards is DOG… “A True Gift”

Three years ago, the Lord saw fit to send down the angels to retrieve beloved 'Mayday' ---
my loyal Cocker Spaniel of 17 years…

Today, he has blessed me (AGAIN) with a new Cockapoo puppy named 'Achilles'---my new little warrior…

"Daydream"

Spring time---a time for new beginnings and the sweet smell of honeydew as the scorching sun shining down on the fresh morning air awakens the senses. Rise and shine---my day is about to start, I feed the soul---over and over as he conquers and captivates my heart. A unique day---eagerly I await his gracious presence---for I am, but a dangling branch on the tree of life---warm breeze caress my spirit as I live, I learn, I yearn---such fun; yes, he is the one! Wise man lead the way and I will follow with an open heart, mind in tow, tall and handsome, chiseled chest, my ‘Manly Beau’ strong and masculine you have my attention as you stride and strut like King Tut, my Pharaoh---a King; I nourish the imagination if only to daydream…

Holiday Reflections...

Happy "Christ Day"
Me, mommy, and my two big sisters---heading to Church. Dad was the photographer.
*Clarence (not in photo) and Michael and Michelle were not born.
When I was a little girl, my family loved to celebrate holidays---particularly, 'Christmas and Easter.' However, mother made sure to teach her children "The True Meaning" of Christmas and Easter. Easter is not about bunny rabbits or decorated baskets...but the resurrection of Christ! And so my parents would often say, “The family that prays together...will always stay together."  "Indeed!"
Thanks mommy and daddy for all your teachings---I will forever honor, cherish and remember the life lessons! Oh yeah, special thanks to mommy for you always made sure that I looked "stylishly cute" (especially on Sunday's heading to church). -:)

"Momma use to say"

Momma use to say, "Keep living 'Sista-Baby,' though life is not always fair; you know the journey is right---when you begin and end with prayer. For the Lord watches over fools and babies, so which one are you? Do you lead or do you follow---I have taught you what to do! Be still, sit quiet, and avoid people who mean you no well; for when you lack since for yourself, look to those who truly care. And never worry about what others' do or what they might say---this is your journey so run your own race and let God guide your way."

Poetic Justice...From a Loving Aunt

~Dear Raven~
You are gullible and young as you full well know, and those that take advantage of you---will reap what they sow. Familiar companions to some; jackals and vultures that prey on our young---teaching them that right is wrong and wrong is right, but dear niece your family is here, so cling to us tight! I am your aunt and I love you, and I am not trying to preach, but never underestimate the power of the Lord’s reach.

And be not troubled if your convictions weaken as Mother Nature corrects its’ error---this is only a moment of stillness to work its’ wonders if you feel thoughts of despair. You will learn that far from the ordinary constraints of actual friends---are many more foes, as you face new challenges and experience life’s woes. Understand that there will be many times in life when morals and values are forgot, but you know better---so do better and waiver not.

My beloved niece, 'This too shall pass' as you grow into a warrior for good---but you must leave all the cowards in their rightful place---a colloquial known as the “hood!”

Watch, Listen, and Discern...

~Food for thought~
Learn to discern---this thing we call LIFE;
And avoid those that harbor malice, trouble or strife;
Pay close attention to the Archangels that battle each and every day;
Fully armed and ready to fight with a courageous gesture of display;
But don't always expect sugar and spice and everything nice;
Be humble and study the word, lest ye avoid paradise;
For the Lord is clever when he comes out to speak;
It might be in a parable or through the homeless man on the street;
So be mindful when you look down on others---lest your heart contemplates hell;
For you just might be staring at the Archangels; Michael or Gabriel!!

Just Breathe-It’s a gift from God…

Sometimes we are our own worst enemy---dismissive of any resolution;
Cynical in our actions, we crave for absolution;
Though brief, we are but mere mortals with the intensity to persevere;
As Mother Nature corrects its’ error, and darkness begins to appear;
The suspense is overwhelming; you find yourself at wits end;
Quiet before the storm---no more can we pretend;
Barriers, stumbling blocks, you try to put on a good front;
Sit still, just breathe, for we all must bear the brunt.

“Reflections”…

"Oh, the sweet memories of Paris"...

Bonjour, mon amis! As I wait eagerly on ‘spring to be sprung’ (2014’) ---I reminisce about Paris in the springtime! It’s been two long year’s since my trip to Paris, and I long to visit this romantic city again, but this time in the springtime and without my graduate-study-abroad mates. A trip to the “City of light" may be just what the doctor ordered to put a little “Ooh La-La” back into my life. After all, every girl needs a little romance in her life and what better place than Paris to engage in romance? Notwithstanding, the outdoor cafés' with its’ decadent food and fine red wines, shopping and strolling about, and the kindred spirits who welcome your presence--- makes Paris the place to go to rejuvenate the soul.

‘My Dear Paris,’ I guess I’ll have to listen to “La Vie En Rose” while freshening up on my French. Until we meet again…“Laissez les bons temps ruler.” J

A Family Sonnet…To the “Reverend”

To my favorite sister---My protector as a little girl;
No bullies, bullied me, and to me that meant the world;
My favorite sister---I guess that was God’s will;
You always made time for me; even when I was ill;
Then you grew up; and to college you would go;
Falling in love;
And marrying your true beaux;
A husband, two children, and grand-kids to boot;
If only they knew;
 That our childhood was a hoot;
A bookworm growing up; you were something of a nerd;
We joke and call you “Reverend;” the master of the word;
You remind me the most of mother; a social butterfly;
My favorite big sister---till the day I die.

A Family Sonnet...“Dear Big Brother”

Dear Big Brother;
You never complain; you’re a gentle soul;
The same birthday as our mother;
And the first that she would hold;
The foundation has been set; big shoes you must fill;
Father’s good name;
Mothers’ strong will;
They are both one in the same.
So you can’t go wrong;
And you need not fret;
Though the pressure is on;
The foundation has been set.
Cut from good cloth; I know you have the heart;
Fill those shoes with honor---ready, set, START!

A Family Sonnet...“For the Twins”

Michelle & Michael

Born one after-another;
Alike in every which way;
I know you miss our mother;
But this she would want me to say;
You feel despondent and depressed;
This is a really challenging time;
But know that you are blessed;
And God will comfort your mind;
And when you feel blue;
 Sit still and try to be calm;
Remember the lessons that mom taught;
Read King David’s book of Psalms;
Take care of each other; and look after our father;
 And when times get tough; work on your faith even harder …

A Family Sonnet...“To my Eldest Sister”

She gave you her heart;
And you stole her spirit;
From the very start;
You were never coherent;
Like a thief in the night;
You sneak about;
The union was never right;
So my parents were in doubt;
My sister gave birth to two daughters and a son;
We were so very glad;
Three blessings for everyone;
But my sister was sad; she loved a dead beat dad;
So after years of his lies, disrespect, and drama;
Don’t worry dear sister; there’s something called KARMA…
“This I know to be true; good, bad or indifferent…
Karma awaits you!”

"My Summer Love Affair"

One summer I fell in love with the “Big Easy,” known for its’ Old World Charms, similarly to Paris I was welcomed with open arms. The concierge greets me; I dwell at the Monteleone; I am swept away in this Crescent city; my new home, away from home. Flanked by the moist, sweltering breeze, that pierces the conscious soul; tempered by the rich tradition of history and the passing away of new and old.

The flamboyant and boisterous crowd, congregate in the street, as I daydream of my ancestral spirits, dancing to the musicians beat; they are lavishly adorned in white and gold with trumpets leading the way, as the crowd commence to cheer; “Play---‘Satchmo’---Play.”

To be sure, this is a sexy metropolis, infused with creative angels, who descend from the heavens passed away; as my favorite playwright Tennessee Williams, would say; “New Awlins’ inspired “A Streetcar Named Desire,”---his Pulitzer Prize Play.” And so, I am enthralled in this city as a sponge that soaks in the sink---day after day. Beguiled and bewitched by mere happenstance; I am enchanted and enamored by all of the “Pomp---and circumstance.”

As I ride the streetcar in amazement with my one day “jazzy pass,” I explore historic mansions and the famous “Faubourg Tremé;” I am utterly amassed! And after I explore all the sites to be seen; I frequent the French Quarter…Eager for my creole cuisine. I feast on Crawfish in my Jambalaya as the waiter is ever so nice; He takes my entrée, I order Crab Cakes----and a bowl of Dirty Rice; “Need I say more…I am in paradise!”

And so I wind down from a fun-filled day, reflecting on what the natives say; “Laissez les bons temps rouler;” Indeed! So, I gaze out at the Steamboats passing the Mississippi River while Catfish leaps in the air; I am passionately reminded---why I fell in love with New Awlins’; “My Summer Love Affair…”

"Sign of the Times"

Food for thought...

Oh, how I miss the days when tricks and treats only came in "Cracker Jacks; " Now we live in a world where it's difficult to decipher fiction from the facts; An oasis run rampant of vague riddles to deceive ones mind; so pay close attention to detail with a watchful eye as grace is not always refined.

“Misery Loves Company”---Oh, what a Miserable Soul...

The only two things promised in life are known to be “Death and Taxes.” Yet Misery Loves Company and merely just relaxes. This is a tale of a Miserable Soul, a difficult draft to compose; a story to be told and fully expose the truth about Miserable Souls. Miserable Souls they’re on the job; in your family; a lover or a friend or two; Nevertheless, I’m sure you’ll agree; it’s a rather hard pill to chew.

A Miserable Soul mopes about wondering where to begin----And never can acknowledge that happiness comes from within.

A Miserable soul will make excuses----And constantly complain; they will rain on everyone’s parade just so you can feel their pain.

A Miserable Soul has no goal they consume everyone’s space----Not living, but rather existing in a horrific and miserable place.

A Miserable Soul is a nagger, a complainer, a whiner, and quibbles about----Not rich enough, not pretty enough, not thin enough----They revel in constant doubt.

A Miserable Soul walks about with a frown on their face-----Filling the air with negative energy, self-pity and disgrace.

A Miserable Soul is selfish, and will monopolize all of your time----If you offer them a nickel, they will nag you to death for a dime.

A Miserable Soul lacks wisdom and faith, for they wear a huge chip on their shoulder-----If only they knew and believed in the words, “Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.”

A Miserable Soul plays a chess game with a never ending fate; they start the game, then it's over, a sore loser----Checkmate!

 A Miserable Soul lives life at a complete stand still; one day they will explode, sitting in idle mode as they slowly begin to erode.

Miserable Souls they hate the rich, and truly despise the poor----For they are high and mighty always entitled with a desire to give less, and take more.

Oh, Miserable Soul, I know these words are very tough to hear----So let me be clear, “Open your ears so that your evil heart can disappear; ” for you coalesce around the phone waiting for it to ring; but who in there right mind would want to be around such a dreadful and awful being… “In fact---Nobody owes you anything!!!!”

The harrowing words above are often sadly portrayed; and yet the truth is told, they’re a ‘Miserable Soul’ that rains on everyone’s parade.

“A Mother’s Legacy…Reveled in Faith”

Like a gladiator at the coliseum arena, enthralled in a fierce battle; my mom delivered a formidable fight, but the cancer progressed like a thief in the middle of the night;

     And so the family tried to be strong; relaxing the mind at minimal ease;
As we faced the harsh reality, of a grotesque and frightening disease;
We witnessed our mothers courageous spirit---to the very, very end; but most cannot imagine, what my mother had to defend; Every day she defended her life with a display of honor, grace, and dignity; And so we forget not my mother's journey; her life, as well as, her leg-a-cy.

     Her winning smile was a delight to see as she lay in bed just as fragile as can be. So, I dig deep down in the pits of my soul, relinquishing all my fears; oh, how I wish I were tenacious like my mom, but I cannot contain the tears; I pray to my God, "Dear Lord, allow me the privilege to partake; " Then, suddenly, I hear a voice..."It’s time to let go, dear daughter; For The Lord makes no mistakes…"

A Mothers, 'Sage Advice'

I am my mothers daughter...
The wisdom of a good mother is difficult to find, especially for a child that’s reckless and blind.
I miss my mother, so very, very much—her motherly love, motherly instincts, and motherly touch.
And just when I thought, I was staying afloat; temptation knocks at my door, just-a-pulling my coat.

“It’s so cold in Chicago, the Caribbean, sure sounds nice,”
but suddenly I hear my mothers sage advice;
“Got to get up and get your work done, life is not always games and fun.”

Yes, temptation, always tries to get in your way,
But a good mother will grab you by the collar, if only to say;
“Handle your business, you know wrong from right;
When you get your vacation, then you can plan to take flight;
Don’t you go out on a limb unless you have something to break the fall” And so I retreat, standing firm and tall.

Yes, thoughts of running away---to play, sure would be nice;
But I thank God every day for my Mothers’ Sage Advice.

"Unwind"

Proper rest to rejuvenate the soul...
So tired from a lack of sleep; cannot focus as the mind plays a trick like a bad reality TV show that follow a producers script. But, I stay the course, nose to the grindstone and hammer away; navigating uncharted waters--day after day. I assist; I comfort; I am in high demand as outpatients arrive in dire need of a helping hand.

And then I come home, my sanctuary of ease; I feel no pain while listening to Duke and Coltrane—A Sentimental Mood—I feel quite divine; batteries recharging; I relax my mind with a hot bubble bath and a soothing glass of red wine as yesterday’s doubts begin to UNWIND…

Cherish Friendships...

Cherish your friendships, near and dear to the heart, like the Mona Lisa that resides at the Louvre; a fine piece of Art.

Cherish your friendships, be it new or old, like the precious earthly elements of Silver and Gold.

Cherish your friendships, and sometimes you may clash, but like close siblings that fight; the anger never lasts.

Cherish your friendships, if only for a season; enjoy the ride and discern every reason.

Cherish your friendships, they are a gift from 'The most Devine.' So like a warrior on the battlefield, guard them with every effort—with your heart, your soul, and your mind!

Envy is a Deadly Sin...

Alas, allow me to be clear; “I have ears to hear and eyes that see; I am blessed that the Lord’s armor graces upon me.” For the Lord has prepared me to identify wretched souls that embody a distinct resemblance of evil trolls trapped in the midst of pretense and mendacity's; wolves hiding out in sheep clothing displaying fictitious niceties. You roam the halls with “ratchet jaws” laced with an impure heart; Unveiled is jealousy and negative energy, which cast you apart.  How difficult it must be and sad to see, mouths with two-faces...beholden to ENVY!

An Impulse of the Heart...

Was it Lust or Love?

This is a true story of lust or love, a romantic journey, well, sort of. Nevertheless, listen up closely as the story would go…He was from Ohio, I, Chicago. The initials of his name…“A. C .R.” had many to believe that he was a big star. And so he was, on and off the NBA court, but I was young and naive to appreciate his sport. Oh, don’t get me wrong, he was a talented man, but I was his love, not some star struck fan.  So, as the story would go, our love began to grow; we laughed morning and night, and traveled the world afar; we shared moments of passion underneath the shining stars. He showered me with gifts, oh, our love was so bliss; He warmed my heart with the most tender kiss. My romantic love was perfect, no malice or strife, but he kept one secret from me; he had kids and a wife!

 Needless to say, the romance was over, no words, nor fuss, but a distinct life lesson on love and lust. So, ladies, when reading my words, take heed and learn, remember Adler’s passage, and try to discern; "Men of genius, are admired, Men of wealth, are envied, Men of power, are feared, but only Men of CHARACTER...are trusted!"

Soar Like a Bird

I am most content when I travel; I travel light as a feather with only a back pack--one day soon, the date is not exact. It all depends on how I feel; London, Paris, Italy, maybe Brazil.  It’s time to spread my wings like a bird that flies in stride only to land on the Caribbean tides. No care in the world, no despair; “Stop, slow down; Marley jamming in the summer air...Satisfy my soul." Blue waters, sandy beaches, Sun and fun; I’m in sheer ecstasy; free to be me; to greet smiling faces in new and exotic places. Yes, on my excursion, I am as free as a bird; I feast like a queen; no need to be seen; only heard as I soar like a bird.

True Love...Poetry in Motion

"Happy Valentine Day"

"True love" is enduring and everlasting; it is unconditional, unwavering, and flinches not. It is an understanding and a selfless trait that only coexists among "True lovers." Sometimes a sacrifice shared by a soul mate, but always a genuine appreciation shared by both. Yes, live your life with passion and vigor, and make sure you choose the best lover to share your life because...

"True love" excepts the positive flow of energy handed down by the "Karma Gods" like meeting a new love in another country, different background and culture, unexpected to be sure, but "nothing incredible is impossible" because...

"True love” is poetry in motion. It is "when you work to live, not live to work." It is when you meet someone and feel as though you have known them forever. You finish each other's sentence, and it feels natural with no inhibitions, no stress and worry, patience, and love for one another. The relationship is not forced or pretentious, like trying to put a circle in a square- "it is not quite the right fit." There is not a loss of words, and both lovers can always be themselves where each appreciates and respects the other. It is a club where wisdom and graciousness need only apply-as each member is envied by non members.

"True love" allows emotions to fuel enthusiasm, and inner restlessness to disappear as that mystical, magical, 'special one' craves for your attention, and he or she is anxious to share the good news with family, friends, and colleagues. Careful though, ONLY share-- with those who care! And make love until your hearts beat as one as you travel down the glorious road of bliss and peacefulness. My friend’s, harness the thought like a "May Day" in springtime or envision...

"True love" as a cold glass of lemonade on a hot and humid summer day in the sexy cities of New Orleans, New York, or Paris...thirsty anyone???

"True love" is the end of the story where the couple live happily ever after; proudly and responsibly with dignity and honor protecting the realm. Hence, a treasured gift passed down from God, where no man or woman has to settle for less, when he or she is ensured the best. However, there is one exception...you have to believe! You must have faith to experience all of the above. In fact, this is the intersection where passion and "True love" encounters what most will never experience, and some will only read about like a "Fifty Shades of Grey novel."

And that is what "True love" means to me as I celebrate Valentine Day...

Sweet Dream...

Chasing rainbows and butterflies, we blossomed from the very start; A quintessential love that illuminated my heart. An affectionate kiss, up-and-down my neck and face, your touch; your love; your tender embrace. Like a cold glass of lemonade on a hot, humid, and summer day; I thirst for your inner passion as my creative thoughts run astray. My love, you satiate my soul and fuel the fire as I crave your being with all my womanly desires. Throughout the night, I toss, I turn or so it would seem; Nothing incredible is impossible, but yet another Sweet Dream.

Heaven must have sent you here...

A poem dedicated to Amir & Arsiak's engagement...

Beloved, as the seasons change; a sigh of relief is finally within range. Daydreams, no schemes, my heart glistens and gleams. Sheer joy and passion, bells ring, and the Angels sing; “Sit still, just breathe, and accept all your blessings.” The voices, they vibrate without any known glitch; a note of perfection with a razor-sharp pitch. And so I wait patiently in thought; no feelings of distraught; a romance filled with trust, respect and love as promised from above. Alas, blissful and tender are your tantalizing charms; immersed in passion as I clasp your strong and masculine arms. Like a rose in full bloom, this union will surely grow; I’m in pure delight, and my cheeks are all aglow. A warm sensation, so absolute and clear, no doubts or worries because heaven must have sent you here.

A New Beginning

Quiet before the storm, the heart is heavy, it pains.
All alone, and then it rains, not a trickle; nor a sprinkle; but a downpour so frightfully fast, "But by the grace of God," I prevail; Alas...I dry my eyes, fresh and anew; sad spirit, begone...I bid you adieu. I blossom; I flourish; I bloom; to make room--For new dreams, new opportunities, new relationships...
NEW BEGINNING's.

My Hero...

The scripture says, “God will not put more on us than we can handle. Furthermore, what does not kill, will strengthen.” How fortunate for me to have been born out of the womb of a God fearing, strong and compassionate woman… my mother! My mother was spiritual and loved God. In fact, she taught her husband and children how to walk in the grace and presence of the Lord while maintaining a humble and compassionate heart with others. Notwithstanding, mom had a wicked sense of humor; a witty and charming disposition; she was smart; beautiful; frisky; a dynamite cook; and most important, she synthesized the words; “Great Mom.” Therefore, when the question comes up, "Who is my hero?…It goes without say!" Moreover, the best childhood memory that I have of 'My Hero,' is never having to want for anything; The best memory that I have of 'My Hero' as an adult, is never having to want for anything. I ask the question: "When your mother passes the baton, and tells you to complete the race, will you be ready?"

“Mom, I have Learned from your teachings, and I will forever honor your memory!” Yes, I am the anchor, and ready to finish the race!!!

Divine Connection

You satisfy the flesh, night after night; you are someone that I know not, but revealed is your plight; and so I pay attention; I watch, listen, and learn, and through God's wisdom, I am able to discern. If the root is dead, the leaves will fall; but the righteous will bloom, so firm, so tall. I'll pray for you because your path I fear, but only God can lead ones sight to be clear. Renew your mind, and think with a pure heart, and forget not God's purpose, from beginning to start. I thank God for my faith, he protects me night and day; his strength is my shield as I continue to pray. A joy to unspeakable, yes, God; the mighty one above, and as his good sheep, he will choose MY True Love...

Where's my inspiration?

Greetings!

Hopefully, we will soon see sunshine in Chicago because the recent grey skies have not inspired me to complete my new poem, titled, "Sixth-Sense." The poem is coming along wonderfully, but I like to wake up, gaze out the window at Lake Michigan, water my plants, and gather my thoughts of inspiration in a sunlit apartment. Nevertheless, I understand it's wintertime in Chicago, and "This too, shall pass." However, I wonder if the invitation to join a particular friend in Florida is still on the table, as I am sure that he is waking up every day to sunshine and inspiration.. : -)

Release

-My Dear Father-

You were the apple of mommy's eye; the fruit of her harvest; the yin to her yang; the king of her castle; the jewel in her crown--so dry your eyes; you need not ever frown. Mom was strong, and like her favorite flower; the "lilies" in the field--they flourish, they grow, but never do they yield. Remember her smile, her strength, her scent, and that twinkle in her eye; just like the eagle, mom will forever fly. Beyond the scope of what most cannot imagine, you cared for mom with love, dignity, and compassion. You will always be in her heart, and she in your heart; like when you first met, from the very, very start! You were her rock and her saving grace; I know this because I saw it on her face.  I saw a passion so strong that will forever play...like a true love song. In fact, this much I know, and it may be a whopper; you’re a man of your word---you kept your promise to Big Poppa; "To honor, to cherish, to love;"  So here's a message from high above; "Release daddy...I'm okay. Release daddy...I'm at peace; Release!"

"Dad, you told many times the story of how you asked Big Poppa for mom's hand in marriage and his response was, "I give you my blessing as long as you take care of her till death do you part." Almost 60 years later...Release daddy, you kept your word!!"

I dedicate this poem to my father; he will be 84 on January 28. I know that he mourns over the loss of mom, but dad its okay to "RELEASE" because mom is here in spirit, and true love never dies...
